Private use money pots
Money pots for private events such as a surprise birthday party, a farewell party, or a wedding is, in principle, tax-exempt, provided that the amount raised remains reasonable and proportional to the actual expenses incurred for the event. Indeed, if the amount raised significantly exceeds the expenses related to the event, the tax authorities could reclassify this fundraising as taxable income and proceed to tax it.
Charity money pots
Online money pots intended to support a cause of general interest or charity allow donors to benefit from an income tax reduction. When a donation is made to an association recognized as being of public utility or of general interest , it gives rise to a tax reduction equal to 66% of the amount of the donation, up to a limit of 20% of the donor's taxable income. To benefit from this reduction, it is necessary to attach to the income tax return the tax receipt issued by the association, justifying the contribution to the money pot. Leetchi does not issue tax receipts. Consequently, all donors must contact the association for which the donation was made directly.
